AI search company Perplexity has declared the official arrival of its AI-powered browser, Comet, on the Android platform. This Android iteration retains the majority of features found in its desktop counterpart. Additionally, it incorporates a built-in ad-blocker, facilitating seamless information retrieval and online shopping experiences for users. Moreover, it enables real-time monitoring of the assistant's actions. Over the upcoming weeks, Perplexity plans to introduce new functionalities to the Comet app, following the recent enhancement of the Comet assistant for the desktop version. The company has revealed that an iOS version is also in the pipeline, with the Android version taking precedence due to a high volume of partnership inquiries received. Earlier in the year, Perplexity teamed up with Motorola to pre-install the app, though it remains unclear whether similar pre-installation plans are in store for this new iteration. Presently, a multitude of tech firms are directing their attention toward the AI browser sector. Nevertheless, security experts have voiced concerns regarding the potential security threats posed by AI-driven browser agents, a fact acknowledged by Perplexity, which has also recognized the necessity to revamp its security protocols.
