As reported by Business Insider, Yann LeCun, Meta's head AI scientist and recipient of the Turing Award, has verified that he will leave the company at the close of the year to initiate a new AI venture with a focus on world model research. LeCun holds fundamental differences of opinion with Zuckerberg regarding the trajectory of AI development. He is a proponent of creating a new breed of AI systems, termed "world models," contending that the prevailing AI strategy, which revolves around large language models, falls short of attaining human-like reasoning and planning capabilities. This move coincides with Meta's encounter with competitive challenges in the AI sector, as its Llama 4 model has not performed as well as those of its rivals.
