On Wednesday, the U.S. Department of Commerce revealed its authorization for the export of state-of-the-art artificial intelligence chips to two entities in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. These chips boast a performance level equivalent to 35,000 Nvidia Blackwell chips. The recipients are G42, a state-operated AI firm based in Abu Dhabi, and Humain, an AI venture backed by the Saudi government.
The U.S. Department of Commerce underscored that this approval is strictly conditional. Both G42 and Humain must adhere to rigorous security protocols and reporting obligations to maintain eligibility. On the same day, Humain disclosed its intention to acquire a staggering 600,000 Nvidia AI chips, signaling a major push into advanced AI capabilities.
