On the 27th of the month (local time), Google joined forces with a U.S. energy company to announce a joint effort aimed at reviving a nuclear power plant located in Iowa, USA. This plant has been dormant for several years but will now be brought back online to supply electricity to Google's AI data centers. The nuclear power plant boasts an installed capacity of 615 megawatts and was decommissioned in 2020. It stands as the sole nuclear facility in Iowa. Upon its restart, Google will enter into a 25-year power purchase agreement. The nuclear power plant is entirely owned by NextEra Energy. This ambitious project is anticipated to generate over 1,600 job opportunities and contribute more than $9 billion in revenue to the state of Iowa.
