On October 28th, as reported by the Financial Times, Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta Platforms (META.O), has elevated his long-standing deputy, Vishal Shah, to a pivotal role within Meta's AI division. This move represents the newest in a string of executive reshuffles aimed at bolstering Zuckerberg's AI-driven strategy. The reorganization follows swiftly on the heels of Meta's rushed rollout of its AI video service, Vibes. Despite Zuckerberg's extensive and costly efforts to lure top AI talent over the past several months, the service was rapidly eclipsed by OpenAI's rival offering, Sora.
Shah, who joined Meta a decade ago, initially took charge of product operations at Instagram. In 2021, he transitioned to spearhead the development of Meta's metaverse, a virtual online realm envisioned by the company. According to an internal memo, Nat Friedman, leader of Meta's AI products, disclosed that Shah would be joining his team to oversee product management, reporting directly to him.
