JetBrains has officially declared that its cloud development environment platform, CodeCanvas, will discontinue the development and operation of its current iteration. Instead, the company will redirect its efforts toward crafting a new generation of AI-centric cloud solutions. The CodeCanvas project, which embarked on its research and development journey in 2022 and subsequently launched in 2024, has managed to amass a dedicated user base over time. Nevertheless, owing to the swift progression of AI technology and the evolving landscape of the software development ecosystem, the existing platform architecture has found itself ill-equipped to cater to the emerging needs. Consequently, JetBrains has made the strategic decision to put a halt to the ongoing development of CodeCanvas, with plans to shut down the platform entirely in the upcoming year. At present, the platform has ceased issuing new licenses and facilitating subscription upgrades. However, it will continue to offer technical support to its existing user base until January 1, 2026. Users will retain the ability to utilize the platform until March 31, 2026, after which all platform services will be terminated indefinitely. Looking ahead, JetBrains envisions the creation of a novel “AI-first, cloud-native” platform. This innovative platform will integrate autonomous AI agent design, while maintaining cloud development environment technology as its cornerstone.
