David Crawford, who serves as the Chair of Bain's Global Technology Business, has pointed out that should the present trajectory of AI scale expansion persist, it will place even more significant strain on the global supply chain. This is because the AI ecosystem is required to generate substantial value to offset its exorbitant infrastructure construction expenses. For example, according to Bain's projections, by 2030, the AI industry might encounter an $800 billion revenue shortfall. Moreover, the worldwide demand for new AI computing power is expected to soar to 200 gigawatts, with the United States contributing half of this total. Furthermore, the capacity to generate revenue from AI services is lagging far behind the financial requirements for data centers and associated infrastructure, resulting in difficulties in achieving profitability.
