OpenAI is steering ChatGPT on a path to evolve into a social platform. At present, it is testing an in-built "private messaging" feature and is in the process of developing a matching username and profile system to facilitate direct communication among users. Should this feature be rolled out, ChatGPT will shift from being merely a tool for interacting with a large language model to an AI platform imbued with social features. The internal development codename for this function is "Calpico," which was uncovered by AI researchers in the code of the ChatGPT Android beta app. Looking ahead, ChatGPT is also set to introduce more comprehensive notification features, including alerts for changes in group chat membership and push notifications for messages.
