Apple is on the hunt for a new leader to head up its artificial intelligence division, aiming to fill the shoes of current executive John Giannandrea. This move comes in the wake of the less-than-stellar debut of Apple Intelligence and the postponement of a significant Siri upgrade.

Following Giannandrea's transition in March 2025, Apple temporarily placed Mike Rockwell in charge of overseeing Siri's development. However, the chances of Rockwell being formally appointed to the role have diminished substantially. Apple holds the view that heading up large-scale AI projects demands a significant amount of specialized professional know-how.

At present, Apple's executives are casting their nets outside the company, with a special emphasis on poaching talent from rival Meta. Recent organizational shake-ups at Meta could prompt some of its skilled personnel to seek new opportunities, presenting Apple with a prime chance to recruit top-tier AI experts.
