Recently, a study released on the preprint platform medRxiv delved into literature databases. The findings revealed that text-generating AI tools, such as ChatGPT and Gemini, have been exploited to paraphrase scientific papers. This has resulted in the creation of plagiarized versions that are then falsely presented as novel research discoveries. The study highlighted that in the past four and a half years, over 400 such papers have made their way into 112 different journals. Moreover, it was found that AI-generated biomedical research papers can effortlessly evade the plagiarism detection systems employed by publishers.
