Late Friday night, Beijing time, OpenAI made yet another significant stride in the realm of smart hardware. Back in May of this year, OpenAI made headlines by announcing its acquisition of io, an AI hardware startup founded by none other than Jony Ive, the former chief designer at Apple. This acquisition came with a hefty price tag of US$6.5 billion (equivalent to approximately RMB 46.8 billion), and OpenAI made it clear that it intended to leverage this acquisition to launch a series of cutting-edge AI computers.

Recently, technology media outlet The Information broke the news that OpenAI has forged a strategic partnership with Luxshare Precision, a frontrunner in China's 'Apple supply chain'. Together, they aim to co-develop revolutionary AI devices tailored for consumers. Currently, these devices are in the prototype development phase. They are designed to be pocket-sized marvels, equipped with contextual awareness capabilities that allow them to understand and adapt to their surroundings. Moreover, these devices are set to deeply integrate the large language model that powers ChatGPT, promising a more seamless and natural human-computer interaction experience.

The report highlighted that such devices are poised to usher in a brand-new era of AI interaction, transcending the limitations of smartphones and potentially reshaping the market shares of Apple and other consumer electronics giants. As of the time of writing this article, neither Luxshare Precision nor OpenAI has issued any official response to this news.
