Meta's Super Intelligence Lab has lately encountered a significant talent exodus, witnessing the departure of several pivotal AI researchers. Among them are Avi Verma and Ethan Knight, both formerly of OpenAI, as well as Rishabh Agarwal, who was internally transferred from Meta's generative AI project. Furthermore, Chaya Nayak, the director of product management for generative AI, has also defected to OpenAI. Despite substantial investments by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg to lure top talent, the lab continues to grapple with bureaucratic hurdles and team restructuring issues, which have eroded team cohesion. In response, Meta has decelerated its hiring process and is actively pursuing collaborations with AI startups, such as Midjourney, to accelerate its research and development progress.
