On August 7, Toyota Motor Corporation revealed its intention to construct a new car factory in Toyota City, Aichi Prefecture, Japan. This facility is expected to commence operations between 2030 and early 2040. In its announcement, the company refrained from specifying which car models will be manufactured at the new plant, choosing instead to simultaneously release its second-quarter financial results. Despite holding the title of the world's top-selling automaker, Toyota has faced declining domestic car sales in Japan, attributed to the country's shrinking population and a market already saturated with car ownership. The company's last assembly plant establishment in Japan dates back to 2012. Furthermore, U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed dissatisfaction with the influx of Japanese cars into the American market, viewing it as a contributor to a significant trade deficit for the United States. It's worth noting that while Toyota is Japan's leading exporter of cars to the United States, the majority of vehicles it sells in the U.S. are produced locally.
