In the evening of August 3, Lixiang One and the China Automotive Technology & Research Center (CATARC) released statements addressing the controversy surrounding the "Lixiang i8 vs. Heavy Truck Collision Test." Lixiang One's statement delved into four key aspects: the purpose of the test, its collision performance, the public opinion impact, and popular online discussions. The company clarified that the test was intended solely to validate the passive safety features of the i8 and was conducted by CATARC as per their commission. The results demonstrated the i8's commendable safety performance, emphasizing that no comparisons with other brands were made. Unforeseenly, the test triggered a public debate concerning the Chenglong Truck brand, prompting Lixiang One to stress that they had no intention of guiding evaluations and maintained no direct competitive relationship with Chenglong Truck. CATARC echoed this sentiment, affirming that the test exclusively assessed the safety of the Lixiang i8 without involving any other brands.
