On July 26, the United States' National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced the completion of a 14-month-long investigation into Waymo, a subsidiary of Alphabet, and its autonomous vehicles. The inquiry commenced in May 2024, sparked by 22 reports detailing potential traffic law infringements or other "unforeseen behaviors" exhibited by Waymo's self-driving taxis, among which were 17 collision incidents. The NHTSA, after conducting a thorough review, decided against taking any further action, citing Waymo's two recall requests and the agency's comprehensive analysis of the available data.
