Mitsubishi Motors announced on July 22 its decision to terminate its joint venture with Shenyang Aerospace Mitsubishi Motors Engine Manufacturing Co., Ltd., marking its complete withdrawal from China's automotive production sector. This move signifies the end of Mitsubishi's engine supply to not only itself but also other Chinese automakers, a service the joint venture had provided since its inception in 1997. Notably, while Mitsubishi ceased its full-vehicle operations in China in 2023, its engine business had persisted. However, given the rapid transition towards electric vehicles within China's automotive industry, Mitsubishi has reassessed its strategy and opted to exit. Consequently, the former joint venture has undergone a name change to Shenyang Guoqing Power Technology Co., Ltd., with Mitsubishi and other previous shareholders exiting, and Beijing Saimu Technology Co., Ltd. stepping in as a new shareholder.
