The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has accused Tesla of overstating the technical capabilities of its Autopilot and Full Self-Driving (FSD) systems from 2021 to 2022, alleging that this misleading information deceived consumers. During a five-day hearing in Oakland, California, which began on Monday, regulators demanded a 30-day suspension of Tesla's sales license and hinted at the imposition of fines. In response, Tesla maintained that its advertising accurately portrayed the systems' capabilities and was protected under the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. The outcome of the case remains pending, and should the regulators prevail, Tesla could face a ban on vehicle sales in the state of California.
