The SAIC Volkswagen Nanjing Plant has officially ceased operations. This facility, which had an annual production capacity of 360,000 vehicles and was responsible for manufacturing models such as the Passat and Skoda Superb, marks the second complete vehicle factory to be shut down by SAIC Volkswagen in the span of two years. The company emphasized that this step is a strategic business decision aimed at adapting to evolving market conditions and driving strategic transformation. Faced with declining sales and resource constraints, the Nanjing plant could no longer align with the company's new energy strategy. The closure of the plant impacts a significant number of employees, and in response, the company has implemented various support measures including internal retirement options, job transfers, and 'N+1' compensation packages. Despite an overall decline in sales, SAIC Volkswagen remains committed to accelerating its transition towards electrification and intelligence, with June sales witnessing year-on-year growth.
