The New York Times reports that ride-hailing giant Uber is engaged in discussions with its former founder, Travis Kalanick, with the aim of investing in and aiding him in acquiring the US operations of Chinese autonomous driving firm Pony.ai. This move comes amidst intensifying competition from rivals like Waymo. Pony.ai is contemplating the sale of its US subsidiary due to the introduction of new US regulatory guidelines. Should this transaction materialize, Kalanick, who was ousted in 2017, will take charge of the new entity and collaborate closely with Uber's current CEO.
