Audi has reportedly revised its earlier plan to fully phase out research, development, and sales of internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles by 2033. Instead, the company has opted for a more flexible approach, refraining from setting a definitive end date for ICE vehicles. In an official statement, Audi's CEO emphasized that this decision was made by the current management team, which is also spearheading the development of Volkswagen Group's mid-to-large vehicle platforms and software systems. The first models built on the SSP platform are anticipated to hit the market by the end of 2027 or in 2028.

While maintaining an aggressive model strategy, Audi will streamline its product line, aiming to continuously bolster the appeal of ICE models beyond 2026 until the conclusion of their respective life cycles. The objective is to ensure a seamless transition towards pure electric mobility by offering a diverse and adaptable product portfolio.
