On June 11, news emerged that Wang Di, the Ambassador of China to Canada, recently granted an exclusive interview to The Globe and Mail, Canada's leading English-language newspaper. During the interview, Ambassador Wang Di delved into Sino-Canadian relations, the confrontational alliance orchestrated by the United States, tariff disputes between China and Canada, and the promising avenues for cooperation in electric vehicles (EVs) between the two nations.

Regarding EV cooperation, Ambassador Wang Di emphasized that collaboration in the EV sector between China and Canada would not only introduce competitively priced and high-performance electric vehicles to Canadian consumers but also assist Canada in achieving its climate change objectives. He highlighted the successful partnerships Chinese EV companies have forged with enterprises in various countries, including Spain, Hungary, and Thailand, which have generated local job opportunities and tax revenues.

However, Ambassador Wang Di noted that due to impediments such as tariffs in Canada, Chinese EV companies have been hesitant to invest in the country. He thus urged Canada and China to collaborate and foster a fair, transparent, and non-discriminatory environment for businesses from both sides to thrive.
