In May, Tesla's new car sales in the UK plummeted by a staggering 45% year-on-year, totaling only 1,758 vehicles sold. This significant decline can be attributed to a confluence of factors, including consumer discontent stemming from Elon Musk's endorsement of far-right political views, economic uncertainties, and heightened competition within the market. During the same period, BYD's sales in the UK soared, doubling to 1,388 vehicles. Despite this setback, Tesla maintains its position as the top-selling pure electric vehicle brand in the UK for the year. The broader UK market, however, showed positive trends with overall new car registrations increasing by 4.3% and pure electric vehicle sales growing by 28% in May.
