Tesla has faced hurdles in securing trademarks for its autonomous vehicle services, but it has recently resubmitted an application for the 'Tesla Robotaxi' mark. Initially, in October 2024, Tesla applied for the 'Robotaxi' and 'Cybercab' trademarks. However, the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) sought additional information to approve the 'Robotaxi' application, as it deemed the name too generic to qualify as a distinctive trademark. Consequently, the USPTO rejected Tesla's initial 'Robotaxi' application, giving the company three months to respond or risk abandonment. Simultaneously, the 'Cybercab' trademark was also suspended for examination due to similar concerns. Undeterred by these setbacks, Tesla continues to actively prepare for the launch of its autonomous taxi service and has deployed test operators in Austin, Texas, to ensure the system's stability and reliability.
