Recently, an incident occurred where a foreign car owner was filming the Volvo EX90 inside a repair shop. After capturing the vehicle's LiDAR system on his phone, purple spots appeared on the screen. This was due to the possibility that the laser pulses emitted by the LiDAR had damaged the CMOS sensor of the phone's camera lens. LiDAR operates by emitting and receiving laser pulses to measure distance, and its high-precision scanning can inadvertently expose phone cameras to intense laser light. While the wavelength of LiDAR used in vehicles is generally safe for human eyes, it can pose a risk to cameras that lack professional infrared filtering protection. Consequently, car manufacturers like Volvo have issued warnings to users, advising them not to directly point photographic equipment at LiDAR systems.
