On May 21, Tesla CEO Elon Musk affirmed that the company will commence its autonomous taxi service in Austin, Texas, by the close of June. Initially, Tesla plans to deploy approximately 10 autonomous taxis in designated safe zones of Austin. Should the trial prove successful and incident-free, the fleet will swiftly expand to encompass roughly 1,000 vehicles within a matter of months. Musk emphasized that the autonomous taxi service in Austin will be equipped with geofencing to guarantee operations solely within the safest perimeters. This initiative by Tesla underscores its ongoing efforts to commercialize its autonomous driving technology, despite currently being under safety scrutiny by US regulatory bodies.
