On Saturday, it emerged from reliable sources that Nissan Motors is contemplating the closure of two of its car assembly plants in Japan—the Oppama Plant and the Shonan Plant—along with certain overseas facilities, as a strategic move to reduce costs. Should these plans materialize, Nissan would be left with only three assembly plants in Japan. Abroad, the company is evaluating the cessation of production at its factories in South Africa, India, and Argentina, while also considering a reduction in the number of its factories in Mexico.
