On April 29, United States Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross unveiled a plan that grants a 15% credit to U.S. automakers on the value of imported automotive components. Additionally, all vehicles assembled in the United States with at least 85% domestic content will be exempted from tariffs. This initiative is designed to incentivize domestic automakers to relocate their supply chains within the U.S. All cars manufactured in the United States will benefit from this tariff relief, and foreign automakers producing vehicles in the U.S. will also be subject to the relevant tariff adjustments. The tariff relief will be implemented gradually over a three-year period, providing automakers with a transitional period to establish robust supply chains within the country.
