Tesla is currently piloting its autonomous ride-hailing service in Austin and the San Francisco Bay Area, gearing up for the anticipated launch of its robotaxi service in June. The test vehicles, derived from existing models like the Model 3, are outfitted with the Full Self-Driving (FSD) system. However, initially, these vehicles will still necessitate a safety driver to monitor operations. To broaden accessibility, Tesla has introduced a "Robotaxi" application, enabling non-Tesla owners to hail rides as well. Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, has hinted at the eventual release of an unsupervised FSD software, but for now, Tesla is only authorized to conduct tests in California with a safety driver on board. The company intends to commence the service in Austin in June, initially deploying a fleet of 10 to 20 vehicles.
