The Safety Technical Specifications for Electric Bicycles (GB 17761—2024) will officially take effect on September 1, 2025. The State Administration for Market Regulation has unveiled the first batch of six institutions qualified to conduct testing under this new national standard, notably including the Wuxi Institute for Inspection, Testing, and Certification. This updated standard introduces stricter criteria for vehicle quality, motor power, fire resistance, and various other aspects, with the ultimate goal of enhancing product safety. Effective September 1, all newly manufactured electric bicycles must adhere to the specifications outlined in the new national standard.

Furthermore, the new standard includes transitional periods for production and sales to facilitate a smooth market transition. More qualifications for testing institutions will be released in the coming periods.
