In a recent speech delivered on April 21, Yu Kai, the founder and CEO of Horizon Robotics, emphasized that intelligent driving levels L3, L4, and L5 are all built upon exceptional full-scenario assisted driving technology. Specifically, the L3 level can be viewed as the L4 level functioning within precisely defined Operational Design Domains (ODD), complemented by full-scenario L2 assisted driving capabilities. Attaining the L3 level necessitates the widespread deployment of L2 full-scenario assisted driving system vehicles and rigorous validation through real-world road data. Computational power is a pivotal factor in this evolution. Currently, numerous automakers are championing the democratization of intelligent driving and accelerating the adoption of L2 assisted driving. Yu Kai forecasts that the L3 level could materialize within the next 2-3 years, necessitating computing power ranging from 500 to 1000 TOPS. Moreover, he anticipates the L4 level to be achieved between 2030 and 2035, when the computing power requirement will skyrocket to 5000 TOPS. Thus, irrespective of whether automakers opt for independent development or collaboration with third parties, striving for higher technical standards is essential for their survival.
