In response to rumors surrounding its potential use of in-car camera data for AI training and targeted advertising, the autonomous taxi giant Waymo has issued a statement. A company spokesperson unequivocally stated that Waymo has no intention of utilizing this data to identify individuals or serve targeted ads. Earlier, an unpublished draft of a privacy policy, uncovered by researchers, hinted at such a possibility. However, Waymo clarified that this was merely "placeholder text" and did not represent any actual functional implementation. Waymo further emphasized that its machine learning systems are not configured to recognize specific individuals and will offer users the choice to opt in or out of data collection.
