On March 28, 2025, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced an in-depth engineering analysis of approximately 2.2 million Honda vehicles to assess potential safety risks associated with their engines' automatic start-stop feature. Owners have reported that this system occasionally fails to automatically restart the engine after the vehicle comes to a stop, requiring a manual "jump start" to resume driving. Honda has previously attempted to address the issue, but some owners claim that the problem persists. To date, NHTSA has received 1,384 complaints related to this malfunction, four of which have resulted in accidents or fires, and two have caused injuries. The investigation encompasses models such as the Honda Pilot SUV and the Ridgeline pickup truck.
