On March 28, news broke that the first fatal accident involving a fully autonomous vehicle had occurred in San Francisco on January 19 of this year. The vehicle involved belonged to Waymo, yet the company was not at fault for the incident. In the accident, a Waymo vehicle that was stopped at a red light was struck from behind at high speed by an SUV driven by a human. This collision resulted in a six-car pile-up, claiming the life of one person, injuring five others, and leading to the death of a dog.
