In anticipation of retaliatory tariffs set to take effect on April 2, international automakers are hastily accelerating their exports of vehicles and vital components to the United States. With the goal of capturing the American market before the tariffs hit, numerous roll-on/roll-off (ro-ro) vessels have been dispatched to Asia and Europe, resulting in a surge of thousands more vehicles being shipped to the US than usual. According to data, in February, exports of vehicles from Europe, Japan, and South Korea to the United States witnessed significant increases of 22%, 14%, and 15%, respectively.
