On March 18, 2025, the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) issued a statement, highlighting concerns that certain automakers frequently release weekly sales rankings sourced from unclear data. This practice, CAAM noted, fails to accurately reflect market trends and has resulted in public misconceptions, disrupted industry norms, and fostered unhealthy "internal involution" that intensifies competition. The association urged automakers to cease the publication of weekly sales rankings and instead advocate for healthy competition by adhering to industry-standard data release cycles, such as monthly, quarterly, and annual reports, in order to collectively uphold a robust and sustainable industry ecosystem.
