A groundbreaking new type of self-healing battery pack is under development by European scientists, with the aim of revolutionizing electric vehicles (EVs) by lowering costs, enhancing safety, increasing energy density, and speeding up charging times. This advanced battery technology, pioneered by the Norwegian research institution SINTEF, incorporates a cobalt-free lithium nickel manganese oxide cathode and a silicon-graphite composite anode to elevate performance and stability. The use of special materials imbues the battery with the remarkable ability to self-repair minor damages. Presently, the first-generation prototype electrolyte has been successfully created, the second-generation battery cell is undergoing optimization, and plans for mass production are well underway.
