Honda is set to halve the production capacity at its Guangzhou engine plant, a decision that will impact 30% of its gasoline engine output in China. Amidst fierce competition from domestic Chinese brands and the burgeoning electric vehicle (EV) market, Honda, which has lagged in the EV sector, is now intensifying its structural reforms. Fellow Japanese automakers, including Toyota and Nissan, are also grappling with challenges in China, with Nissan already having scaled back production. Honda, however, is witnessing the most significant reduction in scale. Notably, in December of last year, GAC Honda's new energy plant in the development zone commenced operations, boasting an annual capacity of 120,000 vehicles and achieving zero carbon emissions right from the start of production.
