In February 2025, Japan witnessed a 4% year-on-year surge in imported car sales, amassing a total of 18,601 units. Notably, pure electric vehicle sales have been on an upward trajectory for four consecutive months, comprising 10% of overall sales. BYD and Tesla emerged as leading performers, recording year-on-year sales increases of 21% and 42%, respectively. The imported car market has now expanded for two straight months, with Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen, and BMW securing the top three spots in sales rankings. It's worth mentioning that while sales of high-end models have experienced a decline, sales of mid- and low-priced models have seen an uptick.
