On February 25th, data released by the European Automobile Manufacturers Association revealed a significant downturn in Tesla's sales in Europe, with a 45% plunge recorded in January 2023. During this period, the company managed to sell only 9,945 vehicles. Specifically, in Germany, Tesla's new car registrations plummeted to 1,277, marking the lowest figure since July 2021. In France, the decline was even more pronounced, with sales falling by 63% to reach a new low not seen since August 2022.

In stark contrast, the overall electric car market in Europe witnessed a robust 37% growth in registrations during the same month. Competitors such as Volkswagen and Stellantis capitalized on this trend, performing particularly well in the German and UK markets. This positive performance underscores the dynamic nature of the European electric vehicle landscape, where competition is fierce and consumer preferences are evolving rapidly.

Furthermore, Elon Musk's repeated public criticisms of German and British leaders, as well as his alignment with former U.S. President Trump in denigrating Ukrainian President Zelensky, have taken a toll on his popularity in both countries. According to opinion polls conducted in Germany and the UK, Musk's interventions in their respective political landscapes have been met with widespread disapproval.
