A coalition of high-level private-sector economic and trade policy groups in Thailand has stated that, following the cabinet's approval of an increase in the excise tax on imported electric vehicles, auto production is expected to reach 1.55 million units in 2027 — an increase of approximately 7% compared with this year's forecast. On November 3, the cabinet raised the excise tax on imported battery electric vehicles from 10% to 35%, and on extended-range electric vehicles from 15% to 35%. The new rules will take effect on January 1, 2027, with the aim of encouraging local manufacturing and strengthening the local supply chain.
