On November 1, Cui Dongshu of the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) stated that public data shows China's automobile exports to the EU reached 1.83 million units in the first nine months of 2026, already surpassing last year's full-year total. In September alone and on a cumulative basis, exports grew by 128% and 87% year-on-year respectively, demonstrating a scale leap and structural differentiation—clear signs that the global rise of China's automobile industry is gathering strong momentum. The powertrain mix is shifting rapidly: plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) have emerged as the strongest growth driver, with exports surging 372%; battery electric vehicles (BEVs) nearly doubled despite high tariffs; and hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) grew 91%, playing a stabilizing and supporting role. The Matthew effect among automakers is pronounced, with BYD leading by a wide margin, while Geely, Chery, Leapmotor and others are growing rapidly. Mainstream automakers are performing exceptionally well in Europe, reflecting both internal and external strengthening and robust growth.
