The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, along with three other relevant departments, is currently inviting public feedback on enhancing the oversight of innovative design, research and development (R&D), testing, and validation processes for automotive products. The proposed guidelines stipulate that vehicles opting to replace traditional physical buttons with virtual controls must adhere not only to national standards but also undergo rigorous assessments. These evaluations will focus on touch reliability, prevention of accidental touches, clarity of feedback, and other critical factors. For functions integral to driving safety, such as lighting and windshield wiper operations, if virtual controls are implemented, they must undergo thorough evaluations regarding operational ease, reliability, and safety. Additionally, physical controls must be provided as an alternative. Furthermore, emergency controls crucial for safety, including emergency escape mechanisms and braking systems, must be equipped with physical controls and clearly marked for straightforward operation during urgent situations.
