Tesla has rescheduled the unveiling of its highly anticipated next-generation Roadster to October 15, citing unfavorable weather conditions that made the original outdoor event impractical. Earlier, rumors swirled about the sports car’s potential for flight, fueled by Tesla’s integration of SpaceX’s cold gas thrusters into its design. However, a recently revealed patent from the United States Patent and Trademark Office has unveiled Tesla’s development of an “electric fan car.” This innovative design incorporates four ducted fans strategically placed to boost downforce and improve stability at high speeds. Notably, the placement of these fans corresponds with the light positions shown in the Roadster’s teaser images, though the automotive industry remains uncertain about whether these fans will serve as an alternative to the cold gas thrusters.

Should the Roadster ultimately exclude cold gas thrusters, it could lead to disappointment among Tesla enthusiasts and customers alike. Interestingly, the patent application featured illustrations of the discontinued Model S, likely as a precautionary measure to maintain confidentiality prior to the Roadster’s official reveal. Consequently, the technologies outlined in the patent may not be exclusive to the Roadster.

Last month, Tesla resumed taking reservations for the Roadster, requiring a $50,000 deposit, with the final pricing to be disclosed at the launch event.
