Cui Dongshu, the Secretary-General of the China Passenger Car Association, revealed in an article that between January and August 2026, China's new energy passenger vehicles secured a 62% share of the global market. This share further surged to 65.3% during the July-August period. Examining the sales distribution over the years, BYD has consistently held a global leading position, while Geely has experienced rapid growth. In contrast, Tesla has dropped to the third spot. Recently, two independent automakers, SAIC Motor Passenger Vehicles and SAIC-GM-Wuling, have demonstrated exceptional performance in international markets. In the realm of pure electric vehicles, China claimed a 59% share of the global market in 2026. Although its performance was initially hindered by certain factors earlier in the year, it rebounded impressively to 63.6% in the third quarter. China's dominance was even more pronounced in the plug-in hybrid market, where it achieved a 71% global share in 2026 and an outstanding 74% during the July-August period.
