On October 7, Cui Dongshu, the Secretary-General of the China Passenger Car Association, highlighted in an article that within the overseas mainstream markets amenable to statistical analysis, new energy vehicles from independent brands are maintaining a robust performance. By 2026, the sales share of independent new energy passenger vehicles in these overseas markets had surged notably, hitting 29% in August—a significant leap of 14 percentage points from the preceding level. From January to August 2026, the sales share of these vehicles stood at 24.8%, marking a 9 percentage point increase year-on-year compared to the corresponding period in 2025.
The impressive export performance of independent new energy vehicles, coupled with the contraction of the U.S. new energy vehicle market, stands as the primary catalyst behind the substantial rise in the sales share of independent new energy passenger vehicles in overseas markets. Presently, independent brands command over 80% of the new energy vehicle market share in South America and hold a 47% share in Southeast Asia.
