On the opening day of the National Day holiday, the enthusiasm for travel among new energy vehicle (NEV) owners continued to surge. Charging stations along highways witnessed a staggering 28,046,900 kilowatt-hours of electricity being consumed, marking a significant 60.4% year-on-year increase and setting a new record. Across various regions of the country, long queues snaked out from charging stations in highway service areas, forcing some vehicle owners to endure hours-long waits just to power up their cars. Anticipating this surge, the Ministry of Transport had conducted thorough evaluations and compiled a list of service areas experiencing exceptionally high charging demand. To ease the pressure, they deployed additional mobile charging units and high-power fast-charging facilities. Concurrently, drivers were encouraged to utilize the 'e-Road Smooth' WeChat mini-program to check charging availability and plan their routes more efficiently. Despite these efforts, the unprecedented rise in NEV traffic meant that charging difficulties remained a significant headache for drivers during their travels.
