Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Limited (CATL) has officially launched production at its newly built battery cell factory in Debrecen, Hungary. This plant marks the largest overseas investment by a Chinese company in a power battery production facility, boasting a planned annual production capacity of up to 100GWh. It represents the single largest manufacturing project undertaken by the Chinese battery industry outside of China. With a total investment of approximately €7.34 billion and covering an area of 221 hectares, the factory is situated in Debrecen’s southern economic zone. It stands as the largest power battery manufacturing park in Central and Eastern Europe, as well as the largest single foreign direct investment in Hungary’s history. Once fully operational, its annual output will be sufficient to support the battery needs of over one million electric vehicles.
