The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Office of Defects Investigation has revealed that Comma.ai's in-car assisted driving system, openpilot, is under federal investigation. This comes after the system was implicated in five accidents—resulting in three fatalities and eleven injuries—with the primary concern being its inability to detect or react to slow-moving or stationary vehicles in the same lane.
