This tragic incident resulted in the death of the Civic’s driver, 82-year-old Stephen Field, and caused injuries to the Tesla’s driver and three passengers. The initial police report categorized the crash as an accident caused by a failure to stop. However, data from Tesla revealed that the driver assistance system was engaged at the time of the collision. Tesla has withheld crucial details, including the sequence of events leading to the accident and the software version in use, leaving it unclear whether the basic Autopilot or the more advanced Full Self-Driving (FSD) system was operational during the incident.
