The Alliance for Automotive Innovation, a prominent body representing major automakers like General Motors and Ford, is intensifying its call on the U.S. Congress to enact legislation before the year's end aimed at barring Chinese cars from the U.S. market. This move is primarily motivated by concerns over what the alliance perceives as the global dumping of subsidized connected vehicles by Chinese automakers, which they argue distorts fair competition. This isn't the first instance of such advocacy; the alliance had previously lobbied for similar constraints back in July. During that time, the U.S. Senate Commerce Committee gave the green light to a bill designed to tighten restrictions on Chinese automakers. However, the path to the bill's full enactment remains fraught with challenges and hurdles. In response to these developments, the Chinese Embassy in Washington has voiced its opposition. It highlighted that China has already lifted restrictions on foreign investment access in the manufacturing sector, thereby creating a conducive environment for international automakers to reap development benefits within China's borders.
